The British IndyCar driver Dan Wheldon has died in hospital after sustaining injuries in a horrific crash at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Sunday 16th October, 2011,
The massive crash which was to take Dan Wheldon’s life involved 15 cars, the accident happened 13 laps into the Las Vegas Indy 300 which sent his vehicle flying over another before catching part of the catch fence just past the apex of the 2nd turn, at an approximate speed of 220mph the crash left wreckage and debris strewn across the track, the race was cancelled and within 2 hours of Wheldon being helicopter to hospital he was pronounced dead, the drivers returned later for a moving and tearful five lap tribute.
